CAD Architects sponsor Roseland Youth Sailing Trust in Tall Ships project

May 10, 2021

The Tall Ships are coming to Falmouth! CAD Architects is sponsoring one lucky young person through Roseland Youth Sailing Trust to take part in becoming a member of the crew on a sailing ship, the TS Maybe; departing Falmouth on the 19th of August in the first leg of the race to A Coruña, Spain.

On board, over the course of ten days they will learn how to rig sails, tie knots, navigate at sea and steer the ship; working hard and having a lot of fun racing the other tall ships.

RYST’s mission is to change young lives through sailing. The Trust funds and facilitates RYA sailing courses in Cornish schools, especially in disadvantaged communities where few parents can afford to pay for lessons. This is their first major project for young people aged 16 plus.

CAD Architects is supporting the Trust by sponsoring a place on 24m TS Maybe, covering all costs including berth, return travel and insurance. Departing on Thursday 19 August, it will be an exciting 10-day race on an historic two-masted gaff ketch. Maybe took part in the first ever International Tall Ships Race in 1956. 65 years later, she’s one of the few original boats still competing in them.

RYST Chair Dina Wheatcroft told us: “This will be the adventure of a lifetime for the young person you’re sponsoring, so huge thanks to CAD Architects for making it possible. It will also build self-confidence and help develop communication, team-working and other life skills needed for quality jobs in maritime and other industries.”

CAD are pleased to be able to support Roseland Youth Sailing Trust in their excellent objective to provide young people with lasting skills and confidence through the rich experience of sailing.
